Echoes of An Saol Eile: Unveiling the Irish Cosmos

There is a place known to us Druids as An Saol Eile (the Other World) that is broken up into several realms.

Tír na nÓg ("Land of Youth") is the most well-known of the realms. This is the home of the Tuatha de Danann, the Sidhe, or unto the less educated of the mortals, known as the Gods.

Tech Duinn (The House of Donn) This is the place where the souls go to gather after death. Sort of a Irish version of Helheim.

Tír Tairngire (The Land of Promise) This is the home of Manannán mac Lir, God of the sea and the guardian of the gates to the Otherworld.

Mag Mell (Plain of Delight) This is the realm occupied by the Aes Sí. These are the descendants of the Tuatha de Danann. Referred to as the lesser sidhe, or what the mortals wrongfully in my mind call the faeries.

All of these Realms are parallel to ours.

An Domhan (Mortal world) is what ours is called. It's is also sometimes called Midhe, which is believed to be a Norse Gael word. It means Center and not unlike Midgard.

The closes we have for the cosmo or universe is An Cruinne (the Sphere) and represents the Cosmos in the form of 3 larger realms that all of the realms that exist (which are for more than I've listed) reside in. These 3 cosmic realms are known as

Albios (Sky)
This would be the Realm where Tír na nÓg and the other realms of the gods through out the cosmos resides.

(Where Albios overlaps Bīto lies Mag Mell)

 Bitu (Land)
This is where our realm of An Domhan resides, but it is also the realm of the living like animals, plants, trees, etc. And cause it overlaps with Albios, we share it with the Aes Sí.

I would also say this is the realm of matter. So to me Bīto is the realm of the physical universe, so planets, moons, suns, etc.

(Where Bīto overlaps with Dubnos, lies Tech Duinn)

 Dubnos (Sea)
This is where Tír Tairngire is. But it is also the Realm of death, darkness (not evil) and chthonic gods and spirits. It is the realm of the eternal dead, or the "dark world".

Remember these 3 cosmic realms overlaps each other and should not been seen as 3 circle in 2D but as a Sphere in 3D, which means tinier portion of them overlaps each other's. The 2 I mention are just the largest overlaps.

Hope that was educational.
