A Druid’s Warning: The Ancient Fight Has Reawakened

As a Hedge Druid of over 40 years, my spiritual path has always been one of quiet reverence and deep respect for the Earth, for community, and for justice. My faith is built on the wisdom of the land and the interconnectedness of all things. But today, that peace is being shattered by a loud, militant voice that seeks to define America by a narrow, exclusionary, and hateful version of Christianity.

This is not a new conflict, but it is one that has just been handed a new, terrifying book: "The Pagan Threat." The title alone is a direct accusation, a declaration of war. It frames our traditions—our connection to nature, our ancestral roots, our peaceful rituals—as a "godless uprising" that must be confronted. The foreword to this book was penned by Charlie Kirk, a man who, until his tragic assassination, was a leading voice for a brand of Christian Nationalism that demonizes anyone who doesn't fit into their singular worldview. His death has now become a rallying cry, a twisted martyrdom used to justify even more division and fear.

It is no coincidence that this book and its message are finding a platform in the highest echelons of power. When a president signs an executive order to create a White House Faith Office (back in February) and vows (recently) to "go after" anyone who he perceives as "demeaning" or "devaluing" Christianity, it is clear that our very existence is seen as a threat. They want to return this country to a past where only one faith was tolerated. But we know that the America they long for is a far cry from the nation we have worked so hard to build—a nation that, while flawed, has grown to embody the values of compassion, pluralism, and justice.

My fellow Pagans, this is not a time for complacency. The rhetoric we are hearing is a call to arms for those who fear our differences. It is a violent powder keg, and we must be vigilant.

Here is my call to action:

 • Protect Your Sacred Spaces: Whether it's your local grove, your circle of friends, or your online community, be mindful of your surroundings. Stay aware and be safe.

 • Build Bridges, Not Walls: While they seek to divide us, our power lies in community. Continue to build alliances with compassionate people of all faiths, including those who follow a more inclusive, loving version of Christianity. Our strength is in our numbers and our solidarity.

 • Stand for Your Values: We are not defined by their fear. Our traditions are rooted in wisdom, not hate. Let your actions be a testament to the power of compassion, environmental stewardship, and community. Be the change you wish to see, and refuse to be defined by their narrow, violent narrative.

 • Tell Your Story: Don't let them be the only ones with a voice. Share your truth and let others see the light and peace of our traditions. This is the only way to counter their dark rhetoric.

The ancient fight has reawakened, but we are not defenseless. We have our wisdom, our compassion, and our community. Let us stand together, not in anger, but in resilience, and show them that our faith in the Earth and in each other is a force that cannot be defeated.
