The Three Bardic Arts of Druidry
Imbas forosnai, Teinm laida, and Dichetal de chennaib are three of the five ancient bardic arts, or fianaíocht, practiced by the Druids of Ireland. These arts were used to gain knowledge, inspiration, and power.
Imbas forosnai is the wisdom that illuminates. It is a form of divination or clairvoyance that allows the seer to see into the future or into other realms of existence. Imbas forosnai is often used to gain knowledge of the past, present, and future, as well as to receive guidance and inspiration.
Teinm laida is the heat of song. It is a form of poetry or music that is used to create a state of trance or ecstasy. Teinm laida is often used to heal the sick, to raise the dead, or to commune with the gods.
Dichetal de chennaib is chanting from the bones. It is a form of storytelling or mythmaking that is used to preserve the wisdom of the ancestors. Dichetal de chennaib is often used to teach moral lessons, to inspire courage, or to create a sense of community.
These three arts are all interrelated. Imbas forosnai can be used to gain the knowledge necessary to create Teinm laida, and Teinm laida can be used to create the inspiration necessary for Dichetal de chennaib. Dichetal de chennaib can then be used to pass on the wisdom gained through Imbas forosnai and Teinm laida to future generations.
